Celebrating 50 Years of the Weatherization Assistance Program: Improving Homes, Lowering Energy Costs, and Strengthening Communities

This year, the United States celebrates the 50th anniversary of the federal Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP), one of the nation’s longest running and most successful energy efficiency initiatives. Since its creation in 1976, WAP has helped millions of low-income households reduce energy costs, improve home comfort, enhance health and safety, and strengthen local economies through workforce development and community partnerships.
